May 12: Album Release Show
Well everybody, we’re finally ready to announce the release of our new album, Fortress Sessions. We’ve been hard at work over the last year writing and crafting 12 new songs for you. With the help of CAU Dog Records, we’ve been able to capture them in the studio for your listening pleasure.
The CD will be released on May 12th at Subterranean at 2011 W North Ave in Chicago
Doors open at 8pm
We’ll be joined by two other excellent bands: Cobalt & the Hired Guns and Tree
This show is 21+. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Email us at thefuturelaureates@gmail.com to get your discounted ticket before they sell out.
We are up to our eyeballs in anticipation for this. We can’t wait to share the new tunes with you. Come out and join us. Let the countdown begin!
South by Southwest
We’ve been hearing about South by Southwest (SXSW) for years. Some people told us it was the best thing ever. Others said that the festival was one big sellout.
Well, this time, we finally had a chance to see it for ourselves: it was AWESOME.
On March 16th and 17th, The Future Laureates had the pleasure of playing three shows on 6th street, in Austin, TX. We were right in the thick of all the beautiful commotion and musical hullabaloo that is SXSW.
Friday afternoon found us at Bat Bar, along with a great lineup of fellow Chicago bands. Big thanks to Columbia College’s AEMMP Records, who put on this showcase.
Friday night we wandered down the block to the Thirsty Nickel for our first show at the RedGorilla Festival. Concurrent with SXSW, and in the same city, RedGorilla shows are therefore “unofficially” part of SXSW. That is, they are part of the many satellite events that have grown out of the SXSW phenomenon. In contrast to official shows, RedGorilla shows are free, so we brought our music to the people…and what a lot of people there were! It was a real treat to play for so many enthusiastic new fans.
Saturday, at the Dizzy Rooster, we rounded out our week with a final showcase. It was St. Patrick’s Day, it was SXSW, and spirits were soaring. The energy in the crowd fed back to us on stage, and made for a truly amazing experience.
All in all, it was an incredible week full of warm, welcoming people and excellent music. We would be remiss if we did not extend a very big “thank you” to Kathy, Elsbeth, Mark, and Brynn for hosting us and keeping us off the streets at night. The trip would have been miserable without you.
Feb. 23 @ Double Door
Next Thursday, we’ll have the pleasure and privilege to be part of Activate, a “multi-faceted artistic showcase” organized by RAW: Chicago.
Doors open at 8:00 pm at Double Door.
TFL goes on at 10:15 pm.
This unique multimedia event will include an art gallery, a fashion show, a film screening, and performances by Christine Fasan, Radiant Devices, and Phaedra Darwish.
TFL Joins CAUDog Records
That’s right, it’s official. We have signed with Chicago’s own CAU Dog Records! We are currently in the studio with Ellis Clark to produce a new full-length album. There is still a lot left to do, but what we’ve got so far is sounding pretty great (if we do say so ourselves).
We’ll be releasing the new record in mid May. We can’t wait to share it with you.
Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival
We are pumped up to be part of CBB. We had a blast last year, and the new lineup looks to be a great one.
We’ll be playing on Saturday, January 28th at the Congress Theater.
You can catch TFL at 8pm on the lobby stage. After our set, head on in to the main stage to see Joe Pug at 9pm, Dawes at 10pm, and Drive-By Truckers at 11:30pm.
If you want to be a part of this excellent experience (who wouldn’t?), we are selling tickets now for $35 each. Just email us at thefuturelaureates@gmail.com with “CBB tix” as the subject line. We’ll meet you with the tickets so you won’t have to pay any service fees.
This is going to be awesome.
